In honor of the cracks in pomo presentation at an Episcopalian church in Georgia last month, we decided to publish a love letter to our Anglopals.

One of the great surprises that’s come from running Cracks in PoMo is having met so many wonderful Anglicans/Episcopalians/Anglocaths. So I just wanted to take a moment to express our appreciation for all of our based Anglopals.

It’s a thing for (trad) Catholics to hate on Episcopalians for being libs and worse, for being insufferably cringe. Surely, I have seen plenty of cringe stuff going on in Episcopal churches. The worst offenders are the ones who totally water down Christian doctrine, tradition, liturgy, and spirituality and replace it with some kind of ambiguous mix of New Age and MTD spirituality; and the ones that pander to proponents of flavor-of-the-month social justice causes.

But those types of Anglicans seem to be a contingent of out of touch boomers who are dying out, and who are being replaced by those who recognize that they actually need Jesus to save them–something which the secular world and vague New Age spirituality are incapable of doing, are nourished by the beauty of traditional liturgy, and are edified by the wisdom of the Christian theological tradition.
