American Vulgaria is a art and culture magazine curated by Ryan Simon. For the magazine’s second edition, I wrote an essay in the style of Susan Sontag’s Notes on Camp about Federico Garcia Lorca’s concept of the duende. The essay explores the Dionysian principle in Spanish culture, tying in references to Camille Paglia, Rosalia, Pedro Almodovar, Elite, Teresa of Avila, Bad Bunny, and many more.
