We are happy to share the COMPACT Magazine, in which several of our contributors have published their work, has launched a Substack, where paid subscribers will get access to founding editor
’s weekly Wednesday newsletter, and free subscribers will get access to senior editor ’s weekly Friday round up.COMPACT is a unique publication that brings together voices across the ideological spectrum that are united in their hope to forge a new political, economic, and social “center” which transcends the stifling neoliberal status quo and gives value to workers and to building up local communities.
You’re not likely to find thinkers as diverse as Slavoj Zizek and Patrick Deneen, Marco Rubio and Sam Kriss, in the pages of the same publication. There need to be more spaces like this that unite people—who perhaps don’t agree on all the issues—to discuss topics of substance rather than taking up arms for meaningless factions in a performative culture war.
Subscribe to the new Substack here and subscribe to the main site here (we’re offering a limited time 67% off discount!!).
Check out my review of Lexi Freiman’s latest novel and my essay on self-diagnosis of mental illness on TikTok in COMPACT. And check out Cracks in PoMo contributors’ work in COMPACT like Katherine Dee, Hamilton Craig, and German Saucedo, and friends of the pod like Patrick Deneen and River Page.
And PLEASE do yourself a favor and read Sam Kriss’ latest (master)piece after you subscribe. You’ll be glad you did…I assure you.
As we announced earlier this week, Cracks in PoMo is hosting a panel at this year’s New York Encounter, at 3:15 this Sunday featuring Tara Isabella Burton and Fr. Patrick Gilger SJ.
We will host a reception afterwards in the same space…and maybe we’ll wander off to a bar afterwards.
There will be many other fascinating events at this year’s Encounter, including an exhibit on Simone Weil that some of us will be presenting, an exhibit on Armenia, and a panel with Jacob Siegel and friend of the pod Shadi Hamid on Israel and Palestine.
Fun fact: this is the second time our top two most listened to podcast guests (Shadi and Tara) will be speaking at an event together (first time was at the Novitate Conference).
Other Cracks in Pomo guests and contributors have spoken at the Encounter in the past, including: Carlo Lancelotti, Abigail Favale, Patrick Deneen, Justin Giboney, Chris Arnade, and Chloe Valdary. And check out our past exhibits at the Encounter on Nietzsche, Amy Winehouse, and James Baldwin.
