Agreed re St. Charles. And I go every msix weeks to St. Francis Xagvier on 18th ST. - my very old and wonderful friend is a regular. In Montclair NJ I recommend Immaculate Conception - a very welcoming and diverse parish..
I read your piece about St. Charles Borromeo and I listened to your episode with that resentful African-American Catholic gal. (I suppose some of that is tautological.)
Apart from the fact you have barely any business being there, and much less at a Melkite or Greek Orthodox church, as these are all ethnic enclaves, what I learned from watching several livestreams on their YouTube channel is:
¶ It’s yet another gruesome Modernist church, halfway a church-in-the-round. The laity should not be able to sit almost behind the altar.
¶ Their priests are Nigerian when they aren’t 6′5″ Germans. I’m sure these guys go over great with African-Americans.
¶ Every vessel that can possibly be replaced by something from a dime store was. There’s no thurifer, no ciborium, and barely a chalice (insistently referred to as a “cup”; one would wish to check the lectionary).
¶ The presider’s chair not only isn’t off to the right side of the sanctuary or dead centre thereon, it isn’t even *on* the sanctuary. Plus it’s a weird three-seater in a single unit.
¶ Their deacon can’t always manage to read the correct gospel of a Sunday. “You had one job,” &c.
¶ The Whites in the audience are obviously baffled and visibly uncomfortable progressives and/or gays.
¶ Communion in the hand occurs 100% of the time.
¶ African-American ladies are famous for their church outfits (RuPaul has some zingers on that topic), but here the ladies cannot even wear a head covering – cf. 1 Corinthians 11.
From your podcast interview, I learned that the Roman Catholic Church is an institution that has let down resentful “Black” feminists. (Like every other institution.) Nothing we do is good enough for her, not least giving aid and succour to her ethny’s own churches. No matter where Whites in America go, they are subject to reminders that hidden nigures went before them paving the way, and that Whites are the fakers and interlopers here. We are the universal church. Get over yourself, sister.
TLM supremacists are effectively schismatic against their own Church. You’ve just found a few new flavours, and, apparently, one extra colour, of the same.
TRust me - I never went to Immaculate either BUT it is very different now. Or else i am!

Immaculate Montclair made me hate the Catholic Church as a child!! I prefer Peter Claver or Mount Carmel in Montclair.
