Thanks to an invitation from friend of the pod Jordan Castro, I ended up at the launch party for Lexi Freiman’s latest novel The Book of Ayn. After some lackluster opening acts, I found myself thoroughly enthralled by the short section Lexi read for the book, both laughing boisterously and thinking critically about her mix of snarky humor and irony, philosophy and cultural commentary.
Also listen to it on Spotify and Apple.
After polishing off the book in a few days, I rushed to invite Lexi onto the pod, who graciously accepted.
Our discussion covered a range of topics, including Ayn Rand’s Nietzschean roots, why Paglia does not show up in the novel, the erosion of cancel culture, the older woman-young man age gap, the cognitive dissonance of altruism, Sufi spirituality, and the theology of poop.
I highly recommend you pick up a copy, so much so that I added it to the Winter 2023 book list.
